Michael J. Menard is an inventor, business leader, author, and social advocate who has spent his life turning adversity into purpose. One of fourteen children raised in a 900-square-foot home in Kankakee, Illinois, he witnessed firsthand how childhood trauma can echo through a family — an experience that, decades later, inspired this book.
Along the way he earned fourteen patents, served as Worldwide Vice President of Engineering at Johnson & Johnson, and co-founded a firm whose software advised organizations from NASA to the United Nations. He is also the author of the memoir The Kite That Couldn’t Fly and the founder of United Against Childhood Trauma (UACT), a nonprofit devoted to awareness, healing, and prevention.

Every resource in the STAR Dojo does double duty: it gives you real tools to recover from toxic abuse, and a portion of every sale goes directly to STAR Network Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Your support helps keep the lights on for free, trauma-informed recovery — so survivors of toxic and abusive relationships can find their way out of the fog and into the light. Because if you don't break the cycle of family trauma, the family trauma will break you. From scars to STARs.
STAR Network™, and our worldwide programs TAR Anon® and TAR Tales®, are nonprofit initiatives dedicated to supporting individuals in Toxic Abusive Relationships™ (TAR™). We exist to foster awareness, healing, and empowerment – not to profit from suffering. Recovery from TAR™ is a deeply personal journey of self-discovery, not a game or a commercial endeavor.
We are in no way affiliated with any for-profit entities using the acronym TAR™ in any healthcare context.
